Can anyone help with advice on locations to stay when doing the ratrace the crossing event please?

I signed up a couple of years ago and but had to cancel so transferred to 2020, obviously nothing was on last year so thought third times a charm. It turns out there is no central camping, although I am sure there previously was.

The organisers are not being much use but I don’t want to write off the entry unless unavoidable.

First night is in Shap, with the “base” at the shap wells hotel. I can’t find anything close by. Second night is in Northallerton with the base by the Rugby club. There is secure bike parking centrally so I would rather be able to leave my bike there and walk than have to cycle to and from a separate location with all my kit on my back.

I have looked online but most places seem booked up. I wondered if anyone had any local knowledge?

Thanks all

bump for the midweek crowd.

There was an email yesterday saying there is no event campsite this year so we are on our own to try and find something.

If you're riding with camping kit anyway, then just wild camp as and when it suits. There are plenty of spots just after Shap and just after Northallerton on the edge of the NYM. Is there a mass restart each day or do you just make your own pace?

I spent a lovely night in a woods somewhere near Shap once. Loads of places around there.

Take only pictures, leave only tyre prints. Carry everything out with you!

I find it best to arrive late, leave early and use a red light at night or not at all.

And don't do it in big groups unless your on a race and everyone expects it.
