Evening all, heading to FoD for a couple of days riding in a months time, just looking for recommendations of cheap but reasonable camp sites nearby please? Don't need to be anything s****y, just close the FoD and decent showers 🙂

Thanks a lot!

Newish one actually in the FoD at St Briavels. Walked through it last week and it looked nice and low key.
Or try the CSMA site at Parkend. Backs on to the pub and the woods and is across the road from the family trail etc.

Whitemead (the CSMA one) is good if you're with family as there's a pool. I think you have to stay for a minimum of two nights though. A short ride along the family trail to Pedalabikeaway and close to Dowies etc too.

Bracelands is a big site a bit further north and further from the 'main' trails, but a good site with lots of cheeky stuff if you know where to look.

I've not tried any others in the area yet but will check out St Briavels.

Bracelands C&CC one is ok, although we've only used it in our caravan.
Nice hot showers. Couple of good pubs nearby (Dog & Muffler was ace) and some really nice footpaths and other trails running down towards Symonds Yat for some 'Endurowalking' ;-). Only about 4 miles from FOD although a draggy road climb is involved on the return leg.

Deanwood caravan and camping is a really good site and not as pricey as whitemead. Bit further from pedalabikeaway if that bothers you but great views and it's right at the top of some excellent hidden off-piste trails

going to the FOD today for the week can't wait. Staying near bracelands. If you ride up the push up path for the downhillers you can work your way back mostly off road from the Pedalaway centre.

Greenacres near Coleford is one we've used. There's only one shower in a portacabin, but if you're avoiding the bank holiday, it won't be busy. They allow fires too, which is what draws us there. Owner looks a bit like Guy Martin.

Our pitch at Whitemead last week...?

Shame, but mud bog aside the place is spot on.
Some ace riding right out the gate. Usual routine is up early, few hours on the bike then into the pool complex for a soak in the jacuzzi.

Bivy by the trails FTW. Waking up in the early hours to the sound of wild boar grunting and licking their lips in the undergrowth next to your bed is ultra-relaxing. 😯
