ideally south Lakes/ Yorkshire

family friendly campsite with decent facilities, and things for younger children to climb etc

nearby/ on-site pub

lots of flat off road trails for over excited 5 year olds to go exploring (preferably to another pub/ cafe 😉 )

What are your suggestions?

Well out of range I know but BBB sounds perfect for what you want.

Would Yorkshire Coast be out of range? Isn't there a railway path converted to cycling use up near Whitby or something?

Struggling slightly with your request for 'flat off-road' in my neck of the woods (N Yorks) (unless you mean walking rather than riding). Normally I'd suggest something like this:

It's possible to come up with a flattish out and back ride at the foot of Crummackdale taking in Feizor Cafe, and another one around Malham Tarn, but that might be about that.

Turner Hall Farm in Duddon Valley fits the bill when it comes to interesting campsite/things to scramble around on, and there's a riverside walk down to the pub.

I'm pretty sure there got to be a good campsite somewhere near Keswick, and you have the old railway there for a flat bike ride and loads of scrambling and easy rocky paths in the hills that five year olds could go some way up. Plus the lake which is obviously a bonus.

Or somewhere near the High Peak trail or Tissington Trail in Derbyshire. Not sure which campsites are nice round here though as it's riding distance from home.

Possibly not much help, but have a look on http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/

It's the STW of camping basically.

Whitby is too far for the this trip but I'll keep it in mind, similarly Keswick

I want to keep the travel time down for this trip

someone put a link up for one near York which had an on-site brewery and advertised lots of woodland trails, I'm after other options as three trips are planned
