Just wondering, was thinking to put a champagnolo 9 speed cyclo cross double chainset on to my hardtail, other parts on the bike are shimano doere. Will this combination work ok, thinking mainly regarding the chain width and how it runs on campy ( is it a different width ? )
I reckon that'd be just fine, assuming it's all 9 speed.
thanks, yes, all is 9 speed
the reason for thinking to make the swap is that i am using the hardtail for xc races on flatish courses, never use the tiny ring anyway, the change to a double instead of a triple would allow me hopefully to fit an ergomo bottom bracket so i can get power readings from the races, guess only one way to find out is to try it 🙂
It'll be fine either on 8, 9 or 10 speed shimano.
EDIT - just seen the detail.
Be aware that a road double may hit your frame (either cranks or chainrings) and the chainline will be narrower which may cause shifting issues (though you can usually get it to work).
update: just fitted the 102mm ergomo bottom bracket and 1st I tried the shimano triple, and there is plenty of clearance, so far so good.
as for chain line, it is closer to frame but for xc i am nearly entirely in the middle ring so might just get away with it
JoB will be along shortly to point out the immense faux pas you're committing by a) mixing Shimano and Campag and b) putting Campag on an Mtb.
lol...i didnt think a triple would work with the BB but it did, so the campag stays put in its box, deore chainset used instead.
but i do wish campagnolo made for mtb.....
As far as I'm aware JoB has a Centaur chainset on a SS mtb.
