Tempted to visit so.e different parts of the UK to ride this summer. Would have to sleep in the car if its a long drive which I'm fine with but can't decide on the following:

1. Drive early morning, ride after lunch, sleep, drive home.

2. Drive late in the day, sleep, ride before lunch, drive home.

Option 2 if you have an annoying skin condition like mine that means you can't sleep without having had a shower.

Option 2 is my preferred option if going solo.

Option 1 is better with mates, as you can have a few beers and good scran afterwards.

Two half-day rides with a camp in the middle (either back in car, or some sort of bivvy/camp/BnB). Very rare that I'd spend a day purely on the travel unless it was a monster journey.

2 half day rides could be an option.
I'd only stay in a bnb if I could take my bike inside with me for security.

Depends on access to shower/river/loch for a rinse after biking.

I've done lots of 90 min drives, 4 hr ride then 90 min drive home. But there are a lot of places I'd like to visit that's about 4 hrs away. So would need to sleep at some point.

Overthinking it. Just go and ride somewhere.

Both are sub-optimal.

1 means you sleep all sweaty unless you have somewhere for a rinse.

2 means the clock for going home is ticking in the background during your ride.

+1 on a few longer trips to maximise driving to riding ratio.

Yeah, try to do two-day or longer trips would be my take. Otherwise you're in that weird diminishing returns thing that end up with driving for eight hours or so for the sake of four hours on the bike. What with fuel costs, environmental costs, and the sheer waste of time spent sat on motorways. I really can't really justify driving for hours for a day ride any more. I'd rather spend all that driving time, you know, actually riding my bike.
