Going out on the bike tomorrow for a ride that is longer than my usual 90min loop. As such, was going to take my Camelbak; problem is that the reservoir hasn't been used for >2 years (though it has been stored hung up with the mouth clipped open).

Will I die? Should I just go and get a new reservoir?

You'll be reet. Microbiologists have expressed an interest in my camelbak, as they feel certain there are new, and so far undiscovered strains of bacteria in there, that are not only resistant to antibiotics, but also flame throwers and hand grenades

I did think about cleaning it once

But why start now?

I'd be more worried that the mouth piece won't seal up if you've left it deformed.

Milton it (other brands of baby bottle cleaner available).

Does anyone else like the residual taste of milton after cleaning theirs out or is it just me?

Submerge in very hot water with a few denture tablet bombs inside the bladder. Sorted.

You'll be fine, I've never washed a Camelbak reservoir in my life, and I'm not too fussed about storing them dry either. There's black stuff in the tubes and bite valves but I just leave it alone and it reciprocates.

I've only ever had water in it anyway (tend to put electrolyte in a frame bottle, which is usually all I take with me) so I can't imagine there's much growing in there.

Hopefully mouthpiece isn't deformed as I left it propped open with the official Camelbak thingy.

I took the bladder out of my oldest camelbak recently as it was pretty manky and put a water bottle in instead. Best and worst of both worlds.

If you decide to use denture tablets don't use the minty ones. The flavour will never disappear. Sterilising tabs are better in this respect.

So nobody does the 'leave it in the freezer between rides' thing ?

That's all I ever do.
After a ride ,empty, rinse, then chuck in the freezer.

Can't you just rinse a cb with boiling water like with a platypus?

As long as there are no dark spots anywhere, you'll be fine.

I know from experience that if the are said spots, around an hour into your ride you will experience the worst galloping trots of your life.
