I have acquired an old MULE backpack minus a bladder. Anyone know of a good fitting replacement bladder?
Feels like a simple question but having never had a backpack or hydration pack before I don't know exactly what I'm looking for - do the cheap square ones on eBay fit properly? 2L? 3L?
They're generally designed for 3l
BUT, check inside the bag. The newer Mules were designed specifically for the Camelbak bladder and have a rigid loop to slot it into. I don't know how earlier bags were designed
The older Mules have a loop that the bladder is supposed to hook onto. They always come loose though, doesn't seem to make any difference to functionality. I think any 3l bladder would probably do.
I've got 3l, 2l and 1.5l CamelBak bladders (from various other bags) that fit in my old, old MULE.
It originally came with the 3l, but when it's completely full, it changes the shape of the bladder containing part of the bag and takes up some of the other internal room from the main compartment.
I'd get a 3l bladder and only fill it up as much as you need for the ride you intend to do. This will mean that it will form to the shape of your back more readily when half full for example.
Picked up a bladder from Decathalon, 2L, £8, seems to fit well and be the right shape.
