I am thinking about going XX1 but am concerned I will not get the same spread of ratios as with a 38/24 chainset and 11:36 cassette. I found this spreadsheet and wondered if anyone could verify its accuracy?

Even if you select a 30t you are still losing ratios from the top and bottom. Admittedly I only use low gear on a big hill at the end of a long ride but still nice to have just in case. That and the expense makes it seem a bit daft.

Cheers
Rich

Always compromise with 1x drive trains, but I like my XX1. I hardly use the big ring on 3x

I went from 38/24 with an 11-36 cassette to running XX1 with a 32t chainring.

According to the spreadsheet I've lost the equivalent of my 38:11 and my 24:36 but in reality I don't miss either of them.

I'm 3 x 9 and having just replaced some expensive chainsets I'm not going to change in a hurry. However, I've recently set up some 2 x 10 for friends and was rather impressed with what felt like much chrisper front shifting.

That set me thinking about 1 x 11. So, last couple of rides in the peaks, I've not used the lowest couple of gears to see if I could get away with it. I've been pleasantly surprised actually. And that's coming from someone who thought 22/34 was the only way to get up some of that stuff.

I think you just make do with what you've got. I might seriously consider it next time I find myself at a natural change point.

You cant expect a 1x11 to completely replace the whole range of 2x10, but it does come damn close and the fact you lose the front mech is more worth it than you think. I can from a 2x9 setup (36/22 x 11-34) and with a 30t on XX1 I lost a top end and a bottom end gear. I dont notice that at all but coming from X0 9sp, the shifting is so much better, there is no noise/chain slap, I dont need a chain device any more. It really is amazing. I did get it from a German site with decent discount so it was only ~£700 all in which isnt that much when you think that level of 2x and a chain guide would be way more.

Have gone from 2x10 39/26 with a 36 at the back to a 34 XX1 upfront - brilliant. Completed the C2C and numerous rides since converting, don't miss the 26 ring at all.

Just to hijack the thread a bit, is anyone using XX1 Gripshift and if so, is it any good?
