Hi - does anyone have one of these and run full mudguards on it? If so what do you use and did you have to go to a smaller tyre diameter than the 32mm that come fitted?

Cheers

I'm looking at getting one and I'm assured by mates who have them as well as a couple of LBS' that full guards will fit with the 32mm tyres. Certainly looks like they'd fit.

But then I saw a Road Rat in the flesh today for the first time and I'm not so sure about the Tricross..........

Cheers guys. Think this bike could be the best all-rounder for me. I love Cotic bikes but don't think the Roadrat looks right somehow. Plus the Tricross Triple Comp seems to be a bit of a bargain to my mind. Wish they would do one with disk brakes though. I'm sure very few of these get entered into UCI CX events so don't see the need to cantis personally. Got Avid BB7's on my Voodoo SS and they work great and are dead easy to set up (more so than cantis) and have shed loads of power.

I've got some bony full length guards on mine with the 32 mm tyres.

Although I'm toying with the idea of swapping the frame out for a Kinesis Tripster just so I can run discs.

I've just priced up building up a Tripster. Got it to £1230 with not much effort and all new parts fitted. With some mucking about I suppose you ould get one done for £900. I am a bike snob so it's hard for me to go for really cheap/low end parts. If I did I know that in a short time I'd be looking at putting on better so may as well do it from the start.

This was my old Tricross with mudguards fitted:

I did get a touch of toe overlap with the guards on, but it wasn't bad enough to be a problem.

Since replaced with a Roadrat though.

I think that's how my Tripster will pan out. It will start life with Hope E4 brakes (on drop bars!!) and Hope ProII hubs with Stans rims and then mostly the running kit from the Tricross. As you say, upgrades will come as I decide some bits are not shiny enough! Must remember that it's a year round commuter though.

Yes Onza I know what you mean. Keep it cheap-ish. But can't see me going below 105/Tiagra/Deore even for a commuter/winter/all rounder. Oh the insanity of snobbery.
