My van r is almost perfect for me, but could do with a smidge more bottom out resistance on big hits.
I'm off to do Cwmcarn DH tomorrow and some of the jumps ie the hip, have potential for heavyish landings. When I get the time I intend to change the 10wt oil for 12.5 and see how that works out, but I just don't have time at the moment. Would an extra 5mm of 10wt work for tomorrow or just make it worse?
Thanks in advance.
Hmmm, looks like the van r is more complicated than I thought! Think I will leave it alone for now. 🙂

Fair point there Tony! 😀 but on checking again I was looking at the fit damper service, so back to my original question.
The extra oil will just restrict the amount of travel you have on the fork.
I did this years ago on a set of bombers. Worked a treat but lost out slightly on full travel. Think I put a tad too much in. I won't recomend doing it yet as never seen the inside of vans but your idea is sound.
I have done it on bombers in the past, can't see a few mm making too much difference.
Oil height on open bath forks makes more difference than you think due to the coil compressing and the progressive nature of an air spring ramping up quicker as the free volume in the fork leg decreases.
