Top side of France OR through Belgium?
Anyone down it recently?
I always go through Belgium and Lux etc. Usually leave Calais around midnight.
Never had a problem yet, did it about 11 days ago (1st Sat of school hols) nno problem.
I'm there now. Did the Belgium route. Was absolutely fine until we hit just before frankfurt. Loads of road works.
Will probably head back via stuttgart.
When you due to arrive? Where you staying? Been here before?
I've used the Belgian route the last 2 years but plan to use the French route this year as planning to drive direct as opposed to stopping overnight near Munich. As such the nice quiet Autoroutes (on a Sunday morning) are better for the missus to drive with my lad on Tolls duty whilst I sleep.
The French route seems to be quicker on Google.
I'd go via Belgium and Luxembourg if only for the cheap fuel and booze (and cigs if you smoke). The Belgian roads are okay and usually pretty quiet and Luxembourg is a bit blink and you'll miss it (even when you live here). There's a very slight chance of a comical conversation with French customs as you drive down from here but they're always polite if you are.
