Heading up to Aviemore later this week and experiencing the usual kid-in-candy-store indecision over riding options.
Was considering Sgòr Gaoith via Glen Feshie and descending via Allt Ruadh, but I understand that this is discouraged unless conditions are sufficiently dry.
Current forecast is looking pretty dry until the weekend, but does anyone have an idea of how viable an option this is likely to be?
It's never going to be any drier than it is at the moment.
There's two bits that I can remember that would cause issues if very mushy (the start of the descent off the bealach is a bit of a quagmire, and about half way down between the two paths there's a lumpy bit with a few little burns). I kind of remember thinking that it would be difficult to ride them anyway in those conditions and you'd be pushing for a little bit. I seem to remember quite a lot of it is quite stony or gravelly paths otherwise, and it's easy to stick to the less-vegetated parts up top.
I may be wrong. In any case it should be in decent condition, and earlier in the week you might get some glorious views as well.
Mostly I remember that descent being amazing fun. One of the least scary but still ultra-engaging munros I've descended on the bike. Keep an open eye for walkers on the last part of the descent, there's a few blind corners on a path that is quite easy to go no-brakes.
