So this cropped up on Facebook earlier:
Anyone know anything about this?
Info is a bit sparse - nothing on the website that I can see.
We're staying at Boat of Garten for a week mid August & taking the bikes and having a day at Fort William & possibly an evening ride at Laggan Wolftrax too, would be interested in doing this too if it's open then.
Hmm. I can't see this ending well...
From the very little information available it looks like they will be poorly built and in the wrong place, and at a totally underwhelming scale. The talk of using the conveyor belt to get to the top of the 200m trail makes me want to cry.
Remember when they wanted to build a dryslope at Cairngorm? It couldn't be used in sub-zero conditions and it's proposed site was on "Windy Ridge". Facilities like this are better off in the bottom of the valley closer to the tourist accommodation, not 10 miles up a dead end road.
Calling it a "bike park" might be a bit generous. It's pretty much "family" oriented. The uplift uses the same belt system used for the beginners ski slope so that seems like a good wasy of maximising investment. There's a new climbing track going in to get to the upper run. It's all pretty much sheltered at the lower end of Coire Cas. As a local I'll no dount head up at some point just out of curiosity.

There is now a better bus service running between Aviemore and Cairngorm Mountain that also has bike spaces on board (I don't know how many). That seems like better joined-up thinking than we're used to too.
We have been in the Cairngorms for the last two weeks, I wouldn't call it a bike park, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

and is that a bad thing? Getting kids riding is critical and should be welcomed.
Had a wee look last week. They are quite far on with the build. Looks a great wee option for a fun wee flowy loop or two for family rides. A bit like the blue trail at Glenlivet. No doubt I will ride up and give it a go when finished. Looks like there will be a charge for the magic carpet uplift.
In my opinion it’s a good start. May be developed into something bigger in a few years.
Any idea when the first tranche of rescue funding will be needed?

Ah, I completely agree. I was just trying to reset the OPs expectations.
Thanks for the replies - appreciated.
So more 417 than BPW then - which will be fine for myself and 12yo daughter.

'Cairngorm Mountain' needs to be allowed to die.

I wouldn’t even go that far. Expect it to be half-arsed and spend a lot of the day wondering by you can use the perfectly good uplift system that even has a station at the top of the trails
