I am not normally a gambling man. However :-)Cadel Evans is 40/1 to win the TDF is he worth an each way bet?

Opinions please

each way bet might just be a goer but he won't win and top 3 would be a bit of a surprise IMO

We were discussing this at work this morning, my guess was that he is going to target the Giro and support TVG in the tour / be a dark horse if TVG falters. I'm not sure if he could push for podiums in both and he seems to be in very good form at the giro atm

kilo - I have backed him in the Giro @ 20/1 each way. But somehow, I think he may well suprise in the TDF

Its a tough one for Evans to win this year, its a bit steep for him. Even at his best I wouldn't back him on this route.

Each way bet. Kreuziger can be had 300-1

to win. difficult to see past contador, if he can avoid testing positive before the race.

He seemed to be going ok in Trentino. Surprised he's at the Giro if he's seriously targeting the Tour, maybe his form was good and he thought he'd have a punt. Always seems to have one nightmare day at the tour though. Even when he won it he had a couple of wobbly days but managed to limit the loses. His TT form also doesn't seem that good so far this year and he'll need that if he's to have any chance at the tour (be interesting to see how he goes on Saturday.) Would be great to see him up there but not sure I'd be putting any money on him.

He didn't actually want to ride the Giro, his team 'requested' he did. Probably a good call on their part though as he's only really a GT top 10 contender these days (could pull off a top 5 if others are off form/ill/crash) so better to have him top 10 in two GT than let him focus on the TdF and still only get a top 10. If even his own team thought he could win the TdF he wouldn't be racing the Giro now.

If this is true then they'd surely be backing TVG at the Tour.

They will be backing him if he proves he has the form and Evans loses time on him (and the other contenders), they aren't going to want to upset Evans now though by declaring TVG as a co-leader.

will BMC even be riding for him? Tejay van Garderen?

There's a story going around that a former Grand Tour winner is about to get suspended due to biological passport violations. There's a dozen or so active riders with a GC win under their belt, so should be interesting to see.

Actually I hope it's Cobo, his Vuelta win was a joke/disgrace.

I don't think another Contador TDF win will do anything good for cycling- something bad has to come out sooner or later (same goes for Schleck and Cobo to be fair)

Anyway, chances or Cadel doing well at the TDF? Very, very slim barring lots of mishaps from the other big names which I can't really see happening.
