I am staying a stones throw from cadar idris in a few weeks, east of friog.

Whats the general consensus on riding cadar idris? i have walked it from minffordd and that wouldnt be much fun with a bike! but looks like a better route coming from the north/west to the peak.

Anyone cycled it before?

Any other local bits to ride whilst i am up there?

Cadair is an up and down (if you stick to the rules) along the pony track to the west.

Park at Castell y Bere

Its a worthwhile challenge and okay, an epic day out and amazing downhill it isn’t

Basically cycle up farm double track, bit of single track, double track path and a small carry to the summit. Theb back the way you came.

I’m not a great fan of the route there is much better riding in the area however I’ve found myself going back and have done it 5 or 6 times now.

One day I’ll be brave and go cheeky footpaths

What Tiger says. Done it a couple of times. Great if the weather's open. Your chance to take your mountain bike up a mountain !

I have walked/trundled the bike down the footpath on the north side from the saddle and then there's a decent loop back around to the start point.

I did it for the second time 3 weeks ago. It was great. Yeah it's not particularly technical, and it's a grind up and a razz down but if you're gifted with clear views, it's epic. I wasn't....but then I was. 😊

Don't miss the left turn on the way back down which is much more interesting than razzing down fire road...

Follow the track above the Afon Dysynny from Abergynolwyn. Turn right towards Pennant Farm and follow the track to the summit.

I've only ever done the bridleway - if you're nearby and the weather's good then it's a pleasant enough day out. It's a very quick mountain to climb as it's 95% rideable going up.

Has anyone ridden any of the footpaths down? There must be a more exciting way of doing it than the bridleway?
