Morning all

If I want to run full length outer on a frame with "normal"(?) stops is best to drill out the closed end or hacksaw it off?

Cheers 🙂

Cutting is easier, I think drilling looks nicer.

I'd use the method that I can get the best finish out of, saw and file would be my choice, getting the drill at the right angle to go through straight and not go it to the frame would put me off drilling them.

3rd option is slot-in guides. That's what I use.

clip in hose guides will work well and not look shody if u come to sell in the future and they want to use the cable stops

I'd figured same as onzadog but as passtherizla says the angle can be tricky. If drilling would you go straight for the bigone or size up from smallest?

Unaware of slot in guides, have you got a link please?

I drilled out my front mech cable guides on my alpine 160 (older version) to run my dropper post cable, looks loads neater now. If your confident with a drill then go for it, start small and work your way up.

When I say drill, I actually use a dremmel. Gets an invisible finish.

Aye, avoid using a drill, and blend the material away with a wee dremmel cutter. And it gives you an excuse to buy a new power tool!.

I use the adjustable guides in the jagwire link above (DCA010). The ones on the left (008) are too big for gear cables.

Why (most of) the bike manufacturers have stuck with split gear cables for so long is a mystery to me. Full length outers are a much better design and all bikes should be designed to accept them. Obviously some have twigged this but not all.

I drilled the cable stops on a brand new Cotic BFe frame to fit full outer cables. I just used a drill and a long 4mm drill bit. It works perfectly and looks really neat. I'd do it with a dremel if I had one ,though.

Just drill it. That's what I did with an out of warranty Cove (if these things matter).
Getting the angle's not a problem. But use a new drill bit and remember drilling ally is as easy as drilling cheese!

All sorted now, I went at it with a drill in the end and used a polishing head on dremmel clone to finish up. Of course now the frame is all stripped I realise how scruffy the paint job is now but thats a post for another day lol

Thanks for advice all 🙂
