much to my surprise my new x01 shifter [u]DID NOT[/u] come with any cable outer... which just seems bizarre, but anyway...
so, can anyone recommend a decent cable outer for me please?
I can't remember the last shifter that did come with cable outer???

SP41 and nothing else. Buy it off the roll by metre.
Stainless Steel inner is all you need with that stuff if it's a full outer run and decent ferules that don't split easily.
Sp41 or the Clark's kits are pretty nice just use good quality cutters

thats good then, my slightly flippant reply was due to the [u]UNDERLINED CAPITAL OUTRAGE STATEMENT[/u] that you didn't get any outer which is fairly normal.
SP41 and nothing else. Buy it off the roll by metre.
Be aware some places (I think CRC?) will cut approx. metres and not send a single length of the full amount you buy

I bought a Saint shifter a couple of weeks ago that came with a cable outer. Nice long one for full length fitment. The shifter did come in its proper packaging from a shop rather than CRC bubble wrap though.
None of the shifters I've ever bought have had outers, fully packaged Shimano ones.
Maybe I got lucky. Or its a new thing, dunno. I did buy some extra outer ready to install the part only to find Shimano stuff in the box once I unpackaged it. I wasn't expecting it to be in there.
Hmmm I've bought xt, slx & xx1 shifters in recent years and they've all come with cable outer.... Hence my apparent outrage in the OP...

always had it buying from madison WHEN buying a pair of shifters.
When buying a single shifter from them it was inner only.
when buying from CRC et all - its not even guaranteed i will get the shifter i ordered IME - never mind cable.
Bought a XT shifter from Tweeks earlier this year and that came with full SP41 Outer,Inner and some ferrules.
