I thought I had posted this but cannot see it...

I thought you could order parts and accessories, with certain exclusions, on c2w. Chap at work got shoes, brake pads and chain, so I thought my bike needs a new drive tyres, wheels on way out etc... so placed an order.

Been told by Halfords that order must contain a bike. I don’t want another bike I want my current bike brought back up to spec. Before I waste more of my time with tredz or cyclerepublic is it the case you have to spend the voucher on a bike?

Halfords c2w and was told this instore, chap checked with his manager

Think it depends on the scheme/provider. When I last looked Evans let you do parts, and a mate at work used them no bother. I've always used my lbs and not had any problems.

We use cyclscheme and you can use it for parts. One guy wanted a new rucksack so for some reason ordered a voucher for £60. He put the wrong amount in and instead of £60 he got £600. Instead of correcting it he spent it on various kit but no bike so you can def do it. I think that was in Evans

We use the Halfords scheme and I emailed their coordinator they and said yep you can get wheels if you want. I ordered the wheels from leisure lakes and jobs a good un been riding them all year.

Well worst comes to worst cheapest adult bike is £89. Seems stupid to have to do that though...

Parts as you like on cyclescheme and I thought that was the ethos of C2W from day 1 regardless of who is handling it.

Of course this means some folk will try and take the pish and get a skinsuit and a disk wheel, so that sort of thing might be challenged, but a drivetrain and normal wheels certainly shouldn't be.

I wanted a spare battery for my mobility scooter and my local Hellfrauds said I'd have to buy a bike as well, even though the scheme website says you can buy accessories.

I got a Reverb. May also depend on the retailer.

i bought an Exposure Strada 1200 from Evans on C2W a couple of years ago.. they said you could buy bike parts and safety equipment on C2W but some accessories were excluded.

They wouldn't let me buy a Garmin - but said Oakleys would be OK as they are safety equipment.

I'm picking up a new set of wheels on Saturday from my LBS - purchased via C2W.

We use cyclescheme at work, few lads have used it for helmets and commuting clothes etc. Should get my cert in a couple of days - will be getting a set of Exposure lights from Evans

With mine, I could use Halfords or Evans.

Went with Evans and bought £300 worth of upgrades 'safety equipment' for my current bike.

New bar, stem, brakes and some other bits.

After they put it through the till, they said I had a voucher for another £20 or so for using them so I got a new chain and a cheap gear cable kit thrown in too.

From what I can gather, frames and forks wouldn't qualify, but anything else is fair game.

Hiya, yes I’d read plenty of stuff saying it was okay, but then I’ve been turned away for not ordering a bike.

I presume the Halfords cycle2work scheme has different rules to others for some reason.

It did say on the letter of collection it must be for a bike and accessories, I thought they’d just not updated their terms in line with the rules. Seems I was wrong.

Assume you can't get power meters can you? I want to get a second one for the commuter but can't quite justify it.

You officially can't use a voucher for purely training equipment, but probably could in reality as it would just go down as a crankset or a pedal and everyone is happy. A turbo might be pushing the boat out a bit.
There's no oversight of the final bike ownership transfer IME so I doubt anyone is running the rule over pedal specs, for example.

Hmmmm. Interesting. It'd be a crank arm. I will investigate... might encourage me to knock another 2 minutes off the commute!

Hmm interesting, I suppose it's more general purpose, but I'm sure I could use a Garmin particularly when travelling on business to get to client offices etc.

Well cyclerepublic accepted the voucher online for items marked as c2w no bike required. Unfortunately parts wise it was only pedals and wheels, so I can’t get the drive stuff I need
