I'm thinking of doing a C2C in August and from what I've read, Woodcock's route seems to be the one to do for "proper" off-roading. Will be doing it solo self supported, camping & probably singlespeed. Any thoughts? Is the route in the book more or less gospel, or are there better alternatives? Cheers.
hmmm googling has revealed the "Scottish C2C" which looks rather interesting too
Mark - have you got the book? I've got the pdf, with handily sized maps, that I can send you. There are definitely better alternatives around the Lakes/Shap iirc. Ask Matt (he's got a better memory) and Jason.
Hey Adam. Was going to order the book, though now I'm looking at write-ups of various Scottish C2C trips & it looks like a stunning place to ride. Will check with Matt though, good idea.
Yep, Scottish C2C is on my list as well - time it to avoid the midges though! I can let you know some decent campsites for the Woodcock ride, and a recommendation that doing 65 miles over the lakes on the first day is, erm, a little tiring.
oh yes those bloody midges, maybe August isn't a good time for a Scottish c2c
Did you find the PDF then Adz? Could you email me if you get chance please?
Mark: Woodcock route is a good one but there are a few changes I'd make based on our experience of it. Jason has also said something similar in the past. I know you're busy at the moment but if you get chance let me buy you lunch at some point--I want to pick your brains about training programmes and am more than happy to offer my thoughts about the C2C in exchange!
It's a great ride btw. I'd love to do it again at some point.
Hi Matt. Will drop you a mail 🙂
