You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So a plan has been hatched for myself and a couple of mates to do an unassisted C2C next year. We're thinking roughly Whitehaven to Scarborough over 3 days in June & I was hoping the Singletrack collective could offer some words of wisdom.
I currently ride a Cube Stereo HPC 140, both the other guys will be on hardtails. I'm in the market for something like an Orange Crush for my son & wondering if that would be a better choice for the C2C too. If not, what would be the ideal bike?
Looking at the route, stopovers in Shap and Northallerton look sensible. Can anyone recommend acomdation with bike storage in those places, or somewhere close?
Can anyone point me towards some GPX files for this, or a similar route?
Any other general tips & advice?
Cheers in advance.

Any bike that fits and is comfy for hours will do. Can be done on road bikes (depending on route options taken). Your Cube will be fine but consider some lighter, less aggro tyres. Luggage carrying ability probably more of an issue, though looks like you're not camping
It's all way marked and is usually very popular if you're doing it over a weekend, so you'll be passing and chatting to the same groups at every stop. Keswick for lunch on the first day is easyily doable. In fact the whole thing is dead easy, over 3 days you'll have plenty of time to stop now and again. The last day is a peach with virtually all downhill apart from the little climb out of rookhope. Have fun!
Jekkyl..
He is not doing that version ..
Whitehaven to Scarborough was his planned route ..
Jekkyl - which route do you mean? We're not fixed on Whitehaven-Scarborough if there's a more interesting option.
Boxelder - thanks for bike advice, might gave saved me a few quid! I'll ditch the Hans Dampfs for the weekend.
ahh yes sorry, ending in Scarborough! just with you say the 'C2C' which is generally the name given to the standard sustrans route, which ends in castle or sunderland.
