Needing a new rack ideally, ours is an old Thule 9403 i think it's called, but with bigger bikes and tyres now it's feeling VERY sorry for itself.

I've been looking into alternatives.

Mostly we need 2 bikes... but sometimes it's 3... the 3rd being an Ebike.

Looking at 'spacing between bikes' they come in at between 18cm and 20cm, with the Buzz Rack being the best at 20cm. It also allows a longer wheelbase then the Thule 927 for example and bigger tyres..

I'm struggling to see a reason why i'd go for the Thule or an Atera.... but... educate me if i'm wrong.

I've had one for years, it's very solid. The clamp requires a spanner to tighten which is a bit of a faff, but apart from that no complaints.

I switched from a Thule 9403 to a buzz rack (easy 3?) due to the towball attachment breaking on the former - but it had provided over a decade of sterling service, so I can't complain.

The buzzrack was bought a week before the pandemic struck, so has only been for a single bike, so far, but I'm very impressed with it.
If you can find a model which supports the spacing, wheel size, bike length and weight you are looking for, then I'd say you'll have no issues with build quality or practicality. (No more need for a torque wrench, for example)

I think from watching the video that may now have changed.

Yours must be older than mine, as it comes with a built-in handle, to tighten the bolt - which makes things very easy

I can't fault the 9403, but the wheelbase is too short for the Enduros, the tyres don't fit in the bases and the electrics are now very tempremental 😀

But in honest for the £100 i paid a decade ago i can't grumble with it, it's been to France 5 times and back without issue. But it is rubbish for loading and unloading on your own too.

The later racks seem to be a 1 hand job...rather than 3 arms lol.

Too late, but I recently got the Eazzy 2 - It's been great, and as other said, now has a handle for tightening. Takes less than 5 minutes to fit it once set up and you are used to it.

I had a Buzzrack E scorpion up until a few weeks back.

Solid bot of kit, designed to accommodate bikes with long wheelbases.

Really easy to fit and very sturdy. clamp had a built in lever to tighten which was good.

Highly recommended.

Anyone comment on difference between the E-Scorpion and E-Hornet? E-Scorpion costs more and 2 bike only, main advantages appear to be the adjustable height clamp and folding for storage, not sure how much real-world benefit?

Yeah, it's getting on for ten years old. Good that they've updated the design.

escorpion is great, nice width to keep bikes seperated..
i managed to overtighten and strip a thread, the uk dealer got me a free bolt replacement, although took a week as they were awaiting a restock from taiwan airmail..

the e-scorpion2 is great as it folds up and takes up a really small footprint on the garage floor, which was the big plus over rival products for me.

Mine will mostly live in the boot assuming it fits...

Maybe this is the right thread to stealth advertise my old Thule ..

My Buzz Rack Scorpion 2 used to fit nicely into the boot of my Forester. Sadly I don't have a towbar equipped car anymore, but still got the rack.

Might get a cheap second hand car next year when my lease goes back so I can use it again.

The way it folds is very neat, but watch you don't nick or trap the wire like I did. Bit of gaffer tape and it's been great though.

Well talk about 1st world problems...

the Buzz Rack arrived and leaving the plastic on, i tried the Whyte in it... it fits nicely... less overhang than on the Thule.

However, i then thought "oh, that seems massive, will it actually fit in the car.." the answer to which is !!! NO it won't.

Now that may seem a bit weird, but my rack lives in the boot when it's not ON the boot...

But it's REALLY not going to fit... not by a long stretch.

Sounds like you need one of the folding ones! But they're only up to 2 bikes I think.

Another +1 for the e-scorpion 2 here btw, takes 2 XL size bikes with ease.

Folding bike rack ? Not a buzz rack, but I’ve one of these after years with the Thule old style folding bike rack, this folds up nicely to fit in the boot, corner of the garage, shed etc.

Yeah I also didn't like the wheel wells. They were big enough for fat bike rubber, but because of that I felt they actually lacked stability for smaller tyres.

Plan for now is to give the basic Thule a bit of TLC and stick with it for longer. Tidy up the 7 pin wiring and tweak the wheel holders a bit. It's not perfect but it's also not £350.

@walowiz

I like. Even the 22cm between bikes is a great bonus. But it's rather pricey!

@weeksy holy cow it’s gone up in price since I bought mine £700 ! Ouch

I’ve had mine a few years now, just checked and I paid 469, which I thought was a lot at the time.

I wouldn’t pay 700 for it, but it is a great bit of kit. I bought it to take my wife’s eBike and have wider spacing between bikes.
