Wondering if there's a significant risk octalink cranks are damaged, and could creak. Would get a new BB. Not had any problems buying used square taper cranks for instance.

A lovely crank, but like anything if the splines are toast they'll be no use. I reckon the odds are better than buying Square taper though.

Given the fact they're probably over 25 years old, I wouldn't be fitting something like that to anything I owned unless it was certified NoS

The splines on octalink v1 ( Dura-Ace, Ultegra dn XTR) are half the length of V2 as used on the lower levels groups and much more likely to get damaged if they coming loose as a result of not being torqued up properly.

I bought a set of used Ultegra Octalink v1 cranks a couple of years ago off Ebay, when I installed them there was 10deg of rotational play in the the non-drive side because the spline was knackered. They had been listed on as working so I raised a dispute got a refund and bought a NOS set instead. Installed with a torque wrench they have been flawless, the bottom bracket is so much smoother and better sealed than the external cups of HTII.

Ask the seller to confirm the splines are good and you'll be fine.

Good advice, can you see if they are fine visually? From a photo? Not sure the seller have used it themselves..
