Being offered then chance to spend 4 days in HK later in the year. Is it worth going shopping for cameras and stuff like bike parts?

Cheapest place in the world for Apple products.

Good prices on cameras and general electrical bits.

Very expensive for bike parts.

Very expensive for designer goods.

I live here. Drop me a line if you want any guidance before you come over.

Just back from 3 weeks working there
Don't completely agree with the above, iPads where only about £40 cheaper than UK as exchange rate isn't that favourable at the mo, factor in credit card charges etc and I didn't think it that worthwhile (may have been tempted with a mini if the new one wasn't coming out)
I didn't find anything significantly cheaper than UK not enough to make it worth shelling out
With cameras research before you go and know exactly what you want and you may get something cheaper around MongKok but be careful as a lot of shops pass off 2nd hand goods as new. In the electrical chains in shopping centres I didn't think it was really that much cheaper

A visit to Flying Ball bike shop is worthwhile, it's a great place, and if you have time the mountain biking is fantastic, I hooked up with Steve from HongKongXC, he hired me a Giant Anthem and took me on a 4 hr guided ride including travel to start of ride and lift back to my hotel for about £70

That would be nice, only I doubt the rep from the tourist board will have that in mind.
Don't need anything so unless I see an absolute bargain my wallet will remain in my pocket.

If your doing the tourist thing then I would recommend -
- trip on the star ferry
- watch the light show (8pm every night) from avenue of stars, then have a drink in 'beer and deck' at end of ave of stars
- peak tram
- go up Sky100 (Kowloon MTR station) for sunset
- cable car to Big Buddah (although its a fair trip to get there on MTR and cable car)
- bank of china observation deck
- Temple Street market, and MongKok markets (Ladies Market etc) - get MTR from TST up to Mong Kok station and walk back, zig zagging side streets around Nathan Road
- ride the elevators, people watch and chill out in central/soHo
If you get out to New Territories the Temple of 1,000 Buddahs in Shatin is worth an hour, quite bizarre until you get to top of the hill and the temple proper
Evening drinks try Knutsford Terrace in TST, Wyndham Street area in Central, soHo, and if you really want your eyes opening get down to WanChai 😉
Very easy and quite a compact city to get around, was bloody hot and humid when I was there though 28-30 degrees and 80-90% humidity

Edit - bike things I did find cheap where the little consumable bits like KMC chains and links, saw quite a few magic shine type lights in the markets too, could barter them down a fair way below DX prices
