Hi,I want to get some new forks. I don't 'need' them until May. Currently -29c and thick snow everywhere.
Anyhow, if i see what i want available (Zeb ultimate 29 180m black) am i wise to just snap them up. or should i wait until april/may for possible 2022 stuff?
I gúess what I am saying is will i be able to get what i want in may or will everything be sold out !
If there's a specific, low volume, component you are after then I'd buy it.
april/may for possible 2022 stuff
Don't hold your breath. Most bike components are on a 1y + lead time now. No-one's launching any My22 in May.
From my experience I'd just grab what you need when you can. Just had to get a new set of brakes for my cheap hardtail as there weren't any spare callipers available (Shimano so the usual small leak at the pistons), normally really easy to get hold of. Ended up buying a set of the same brakes (MT200) from eBay for RRP! Currently looking for a new bike too and with very limited stock available have looked at buying a frame and building up that way, not a hope in getting all the parts easily and it would cost far more than a full build as there's sod-all discounting going on.
If there's a good price available now then do it.
I paid £730 plus shipping for one last year, if that helps. It did seem a particularly good deal (Starbike).
Generally, bike parts are low in availabilty and prices are soaring, if you see something you need that doesn't make your eyes water at the price then grab it.
Sometime this year, maybe next, I expect to need new chainrings on my road bike. I kept thinking about buying a 172.5mm compact R7000 chainset for ~£90 last year pre-pandemic to put in the spares box, but it never happened. Now you will do well to find UK stock and will do very well to find them under £150! 😮
Until the pandemic, just buying replacement rings didn't really save much over a complete chainset, but I've ended up biting the bullet and buying a set of 6800 rings for "only" £75 that will fit my bike's 5800 chainset.
I tend to keep an eye out for what's about on offer. Even if I don't need it now there's a good chance that with for off us then it will be needed soon. We could take stuff of one of the other bikes if push comes to shove but most of the time we have a spare ready that's been bought at the right price. Once its used then tend to get another spare for just in case.
If the Zebs are the right price for you then I would go with them. I cant see prices coming down and I don't think the 2022 ones will be much different apart from the graphics.
Ok as I thought. An expensive friday. Thanks all
I'm after a budget rear brake at the moment and the only place with a range of actual stock seems to be Bikester . However I am reluctant to order from them because despite their .co.uk address are clearly a Euro outfit. Who knows how long it will take?
Anyway I have bled the existing brake in an attempt to make it last a bit longer.
Yeah, i would also say to buy now.
I have been without a mountain bike whilst i wait for a warranty replacement frame from Norco. its been bloody painful to be without my bike, despite being able to go for a road ride.
So this morning i bought a Ragley BigAl 1.0. I almost felt bullied into it, as i knew if i hesitated for even a few hours, the limited stock that is available will be long gone. You snooze you lose!
Now the dust has settled, i am looking forward to it. A spare or alternative bike to my FS.
Bikester is based in sweden where i am. The send stuff from germany. Big company , all good, if you order today you'd probably have it next weekend
Check import costs etc. Things have changed since Xmas!
Picked up a 190mm zeb for 750 quid. 180mm airshaft off pinkbike. Cheers all
