As mentioned elsewhere I’m going to look at a second hand bike.
The motor doesn’t scare me too much as repair shops are springing up and I can usually fixed mechanical things.
The battery though looks like the most expensive problem ,with refurbs costing £500 .
How can I check the life of a battery? It’s a Bosch power tube
I have a 500 power tube on my current bike and believe that the range is calculated on the last mile ridden.
If I get him to do a gentle mile and then fully charge it ,as long as the range is more than my gentle mile the battery is ok. Is my thinking correct?
Any other tips would be useful .
As I’ll be selling my old bike this knowledge will be useful to my prospective buyers.
We have sold three of our old Turbo Levos. Never had to advertise them. On all three we gave a three month warranty on the motor and battery assuming it wasn't rider fault. All three are still going strong.
On the three we have bought second hand we have only bought if the warranty is transferable. Gives both the seller and the buyer peace of mind.
The old Specialized app would also give battery information. Not had a play with the latest one yet to see what battery and motor info is available

I wouldn't be so blase about it, yes I totally agree that the increase in people starting e-bike repair services is excellent, but the major shortfall is the manufacturers supply parts. The latest Boach motor, only two part were available OEM, and one of those is a gasket. That doesn't mean they can't replace bearing but if anything else is broke... Check out the EMBN repair shop video's, for more info. I know Brose don't have the great rep, but along with Bafang, they are probably some of the only manufacturers currently selling all parts to their motors.

The latest one has that too, I think my dad's Bosch has something similar so I'd be looking for that l. Otherwise check the number of charge cycles and distance the bikes done.
