On the look out for a cheap DH bike, been offered an old kona Coilair deluxe thats a medium, but i ride an XL AM bike. Am 6' tall never tried DH so dont know if its a mistake. Used to fit on rockhopper/stereo's in mediums and never felt cramped. Is it a different style of riding etc thats means itll fit?!

thank you

A coilair isn't a DH bike. And if you need a large 'normal' bike you're still likely to need a larger DH bike - the geometry of the bike changes rather than making yourself change to fit

darn, thought that might be the case! So its a free-ride bike? and the difference would be?

Im looking at something for 417 / BPW / FOD...i know my 160mm travel bike will do it but have a dh itch after a week in morzine chasing a mate on a v10C!

Freeride (or mini-DH) bikes usually have 170mm-180mm of travel both ends and slightly less full-on geometry than full DH bikes. They can be slightly lighter, but often about the same.

I prefer them for UK riding, as I don't do big features and they are usually easier to winch up hill.

Forgive me for plugging my ad, but I reckon this would be much better for BPW & FoD than a proper DH bike. And would fit you well...

And I'd be happy to negotiate with an STWer.

+1 on it not being a DH bike, you'll be better off on your AM bike (the coilair had 125mm travel iirc?)

I ride a large trail bike, but usually have an XL DH bike if I rent one on uplift days, give that a try too?

That'll ride like a pig. It's a short bike with a high BB, and then they've put the longest fork know to man on it. One to avoid

Glad you like it.

Drop me a line. It's not selling at that price anyway so I was gonna knock a bit off - and there are options to make it cheaper still.

And check out the reviews if you haven't already.

I had a canyon dhx in large and I'm 6"4. It was fine size wise. It was around £1700 new and there were a few second hand ones a bit under £900.

Mine was nicked in morzine and I tried a few large hire bikes. Speed and fun aren't about the bike, they are about the rider 🙂
