Just seen a very nice second hand bike on a bike forum (not here!). Bike looks very nice.
However looking at sellers history - they have sold another three very nice bikes in the last six months as well. The advert keeps saying they want an ebike, fair enough, so why keep buying and selling normal, albeight very nice bikes?
How would you protect yourself from possibly being scammed - or maybe from buying a stolen bike? Not saying at all the bikes are stolen - just my suspicions have been raised when selling so many nice bikes in 6 months. Surly if you want an ebike, you’d buy one after selling your first bike?
Could be a dealer maybe?
You'd probably have to sell about 10 used bikes to afford a new ebike, TBF.
Could be @renton on another forum
I thought it but I wasn't gonna say it.
But seriously OP - drop the seller and line and initiate a bit of a chat, it's perfectly acceptable to ask for proof of purchase or similar (without saying "your history looks dodgy").
Haha definitely not me😀
It may be that he’s a flipper.
We were selling our Kia Sportage recently. Was on Autotrader for a week, guy phoned up and was a bit weird in that he didn’t seem to be telling the truth. Anyway turns out he was a business and had a buyer for the Kia. Was fine by me, I’d agreed a price him with and it was good for both parties.
I did say to him that I don’t mind him making a profit, we agreed a price. Would have been much easier if he’d been honest up front and said he was a business.
Bike seller may be the same, not comfortable saying he buys, refurbs and sells on.
If it’s a forum and not Facebook, you could search their feedback and previous buyers / posts possibly.
The bike seems to be sold - maybe not a bad thing for me!!
Some people buy a lot of bikes then change them I sold 9 in the last 12months not a dealer did replace some of them not everybody is IFFY.
