i have the chance to buy some reasonably priced (i realise this is a relative term) Enve carbon wheels... and am dithering at the thought of 2nd hand carbon... would YOU take a punt?
i've been pretty luck buying 2nd hand parts as most people are selling genuine items, most of the time... but.. you know!
I would, will probably be selling my Zipp 404s at some point soon - absolutely bomb proof wheel set, been used on/off road, bunny hopped over kerbs, holes, speed bumps, never even needing truing in 1000s of km.
I bought some square root carbon second hand for £200 and they are fantastic so I'd say go for it
Inspect the brake track if they are rim brakes, obviously.
Compare the price to some new ones from a cheaper brand though.
They're m60forty mtb rims....
I wouldn't have an issue with buying 2nd hand carbon rims in general, but I personally don't really think that Enve rims are worth the expense, so I'd probably be looking at a cheaper set of carbon new for what I suspect you'd pay for a 2nd hand Enve set.
I'd save myself the money & buy a better set of non carbon wheels 🙂
Bought two sets of carbon wheels secondhand, just check the eyelets for any damage/cracking (over tightening of spokes can cause this) and check the rims for any impact damage (especially around the lip), so forget scuffs and so on that have just affected the protective outer coating or lacquer coating.
Where have you seen the wheels? I picked up some second hand Roval wheels last year from PB, but stalking the users profile let me know they wouldn't be fake and might not have been ridden that hard, exchanged a few messages to get a good description then used PayPal to purchase, if the wheels hadnt been as described would have used PP guarantee to return the wheels and get my cash back

top idea.... they were on facebook and a bit of internet stalking has told me the fella runs a bricks and mortar bike shop in Carlisle, so i rang his shop and spoke to him... he's shared videos etc and has taken plenty of time to generally chat about mtbs... seems genuine enough... so a payment has been sent!
