I'm finding that I burp my rear tyre fairly often. The rim has a couple of chunky dings but still seats tubeless easily. Am I right in presuming that the dings are playing a part in the tyre burps or is it simply too much cake?
The dings in the rim won't help, but also depends on the tyre & tyre pressure - too flexible a side wall / bead (like chunky monkeys) or too little pressure and your more likely to burp. Never too much cake - just the wrong equipment
insufficient pressure and/or poor setup.
i run ghetto tubeless with bmx inner tubes, which means the inner bonds to the tyre bead with the sealant. i run around 20/25 psi front/rear, never burp, even though i'm lazy and my mate pointed out my front tyre was very low once, probably about 10psi. i could feel it rolling around in the bends. 😯 😆
i use fairly light tyres front, and heavier rear, on ss long travel HT over loam/flint mostly.
funnily enough it's a chunky monkey on the back, which i've been running very happily on my chameleon since they came out ( 3 years? ). it's the harder compound. they'll try and kill you on the front but work well for me on the rear. they're made by maxxis, and have the exo sidewall ( but they're not allowed to call it that, hence 'eckso', or at least, that's how the story goes ). good, cheap tyres IMO.
If you're burping tyre regularly I seriously think you'd be better off seeing your GP rather than asking a bunch of bikers on a forum. Hope you get better soon.
unless your tyres are already a nightmare to fit, try a couple of extra layers of tape (or a ghetto-bwoyyy setup as Del says)

Skinny rims, but most I know who burp them tend to be, erm, a bit heavier than me. Though sometimes just more aggressive riding.
I've burped one once and that was by landing wheel at 90 degrees. Was an OTB job anyway and heavy on front, tyre burp.

Mavic Charge on Halo Vapour, wheels set up tubeless by lbs so should be all good.
Going to change tyre this week so will see how that fairs.
Google seems to suggest a 21mm internal width for them? If that's the case of stock more pressure in.
In my very limited experience, you can only get away with low pressure on wider rims. I've never had an issue on ARC30s, but my mate burped a tyre on the first day on his new bike with much narrower rims. Upped the pressure and all was fine.
Lead me to think that you only really get the advantage of being able to drop the pressure right down when you run large volume tyres and wider rims.
