Anyone know the story behind that freestanding arch on the Pennine Bridleway about half a mile south east of Coldwell Reservoir on the way to Wycoller?
Not sure if it's the end of an older building or a folly?
The inscription was way too worn to make out.
Also, we headed back from Haggate down Todmorden Road, past the Roggerham Arms.
Anyone know if there's a rideable path through Houghton Farm above Lee Green Res to Netherwood Road?
Would make a much nicer ride back to Rowley Lake.
Thanks in advance.
Can't help you from here (I'm in Nairobi) but I do know that the OS 1:25,000 map has the answer to your second question and possibly your first as well. Try Get-a-Map online.

It's just excuse after excuse with some people isn't it? 🙂
Have got an OS map, but it's an older one.
From the newer maps that have just been put up round Rowley Lake, looks like the footpath from Tod road over to Netherwood has been upgraded to a bridleway.
However, I know from bitter experience that some of the bridleways on that new map don't even exist on the ground yet 😀
Just wanted to see if anyone actually had ridden it and check if access was ok.
It is part of the Brun Valley Greenway. You can downllad a map from the Lancs County website ( google the route ). It is a nice chilled out ride.
Cheers chudsy, but that's not quite the bit I mean.
The new maps in Rowley Park show a bridleway going off from the Greenway itself, through Netherwood and Houghton Farm and ending up at Tod Road.
If follows the path of what appears to be a footpath on my older OS map, going north east through Netherwood & Houghton Farm from between points 8 & 10 on the Greenway map here:

I'll give Keith Wilson (the woodlands officer) a bell tomorrow and see if he can clear it up.
