So just wondering if anyone may have that obviously extremely common spare part being a Thru axle for a Burley bike trailer?

I will put in wanted, but thought I’d ask here too just in case. From what I understand the current axle on the bike needs replacing for the Burley one that looks to be wider. Which I’m trying to fathom as chainstays surely don’t flew that much to allow a wider one on?
Am I being daft? I am tired so it is possible 😆

It may be possible to buy them new but blimey they’re expensive!
It wouldn’t be so bad but I’ve just spent £55 on the DMR Defy stem in an attempt to try to get our weeride also fitted to my bike that has very minimal stack height!

Hiya,

I have a couple. Do you know what axle length and thread size you need?

what bike do you have?

Robert axle project rather than burley here (on a burley trailer) but i assume you’re referring to the measured length? Are you definitely comparing it the length of your existing axle rather than the width between the dropouts?

You nay also find they come with spacers to aow for differently chunky dropouts

The burley, RA and Thule axles have a thread boss on one end.

You can E Syer your bike on the RA website to find right axle, or for odds print out a template to measure the existing axle.

Thanks rootes1 so my capra 2018 has a 142x12 rear thru axle.

Also it seems there are lots of different type ones on the burley site too so may be hard to find the right one.

Think what I’ll do is see how well I can get it fitted to my roadie as it has a QR and they’re meant to be easier to mount to.

The thru axle trailer mounts are really pretty good- you just need to know the length of your existing axle and the thread size. As others have said, there are plenty of guides and tools to help you figure it out.

@chrisyork sure not 148x12?

from the RA finder, likely to be this one:

Bicycle Thru Axle Finder 100% Guaranteed! - The Robert Axle Project

=

12mm Thru Axle for Kid Trailer - The Robert Axle Project

UK supplier Robert Axle Project Kid Trailer 12mm Thru-Axle (sjscycles.co.uk)

you can look on ebay for them as well - for Burly, RA and Thule

you can verify by taking your axle out and comparing to this template:

RAP_fitment_guide_A4.pdf (robertaxleproject.com)

fitting vid here Attaching a Kid Trailer to Your Thru Axle Bike - YouTube

mine i have for sale are both m12x1.75 so not good for you.

good luck!

I bought one of these for my bike Hamax and it worked well for both my bike and the wife’s.

I think I still have it (with all the different bits and box) if you want it for about £25.

It has all the different thread pitches and fits SRAM, Shimano and Syntace axles so pretty much any bike. 12 x 143 and 148mm.

I’ve just moved house so not sure if it’s in my garage or parent’s shed (I can look on Tuesday).

If you don’t want it then no worries.

Sorry thanks for the replies on this and if I can get the measurements then will definitely see if someone here who replied has what I need

I’m sure as you appreciate, you can understand how I’ve not been able to respond for weeks as I’ve not even seen my MTB in weeks 😂 , best news though junior is starting to hold his head up much better and kicks like a lunatic so hoping that transfers into childhood and bikes!

Hi all,

Hoping to re-ignite this thread again regarding axles compatible with the Burley.

I saw there were even a few people saying they had one to sell so wonder if that’s still the case?

Also to help others hopefully, I was scoffing at the price of the official burley one, so found that MWay do one for a fraction of the cost for a maxle style axle at £16! Should be delivered on Tuesday and will see if it fits the Capra!

That didn’t fit her FS bike so wasn’t sure if anyone had one? I believe it’s the Shimano style one too

Many thanks

As I said before. I have a universal Hamax one that lets you change the thread pitch, and has spacers to fit most thru axles. PM me if you still want it.

Thanks to Zerocool I’m finally able to tow him!
What a problematic journey it’s been just to get child along with us on a bike!

The industry needs to wake up and there is definitely a gap in the market to create a supported seat pre “shotgun” age that fits a modern MTB with not a lot of stack height!
