Trying to find a bunkhouse within 75 miles of the chilterns for an away weekend that has some nice bridleways to pootle around on, in the past we've been to the peaks, mid wales, forest of dean etc & concensus appears to be for some more gentle riding 😥 anyone got any recommendations? Cotswolds? South downs?
Bit further away than 75miles but how about Gower?
Great scenery enough bridleways for a pootle etc + enough places to stop and refresh yourselves
The Gower is the right kind of place but a fair trek, trying to find somewhere that is a shorter journey from the Chilterns
Puttenham Eco Barn is right on the North Downs Way, plenty of bridleways off to the south towards Thursley and Hankley Commons, all the way down to Hindhead and beyond. There was also a youth hostel at Hindhead but I'm not sure if it's still open or not.
When are you going? Places such as The South Downs and The Ridgeway are great if dry but are tough going when wet.
I use YHAs a fair bit, great value and you meet a diverse range of people.
Further than 75 miles but Isle of Purbeck area is nice - not ridden there but it looked pretty good for gentle riding and nice pubs etc

Thanks for suggestions so far, usually go at end of May, familiar with the Ridgeway & may do a bikepacking trek along there sometime (when its dry).
Isle of Purbeck although a little far is a good suggestion (did the gravel dash last year & would like to explore some more) will look for a pub or bunkhouse there if I can.
I'm afraid the bothy's /camping barns won't be any good as we will be looking for somewhere we can drive to & then use as a base to do some cycling from - anyone know of any other bunkhouses in the Cotswolds or Southdowns areas?
Is it gentler riding in terms of size and steepness of hills or rockiness/difficulty of terrain you're after? Or both?!
