Anyone know of a decent price on a box of say 100 stainless inner wires please? Best I can google is £139 which seems a bit steep no?

They are usually £2 an inner for cheap ones so £139 isn't bad.
Most places only sell them for workshop use so are priced individually rather than as a box.
I use cyclebasket.com for things like cables, innertubes spokes etc. Outer by the meter etc. p&p extra but cheap if you do a bulk order. As always its worth ringing if they don't have exactly what you are looking for listed online.

Don't cheap out, don't get galvanised cables, they rust, and get the PTFE/Teflon coated cables, they last longer between tinkering sessions as the grease/oil gets washed out.
