i'm going to give building a pair of wheels a go and want to build some reasonably light cx disc wheels at a reasonble price, was thinking novatec 6 bolt hubs but unsure about rims, looking at 28 hole, any suggestions on rims greatly aprreciated i thought about stans but have heard they can be difficult to build with, so any suggestions welcomed and also spokes and either a good book on building or web links

cheers

Rob Jebb won three peaks last year on crests, so they might be worth spending the time on, plus it would make going tubeless relatively easy.

Halo aero track are disc specific, cheap and should be sturdy enough for cx, reasonable weight too, also on fat birds at the minute you can get a pair of slx disc hubs for less that 35 quid so cheaper than novatec!

I've got A23 tubeless rims. They have been good for one season and the 3pks. My build is 32h (28 available) on Hope pro2 but I was more looking for life and durability rather than weight for racing. I race mine but more use it on all sorts throughout the year.

Try just riding along custom wheel builder for inspiration.

If your going to the effort of building some wheels don't scrimp on the hubs , what are spares like for nova tech
My preferance is for shimano hubs as they roll so well but prices for the good stuff has shot up a lot and for mtb you don't get the axle options

The hope hoops complete wheels are hard to beat for value

Novatec(cartridge bearings) or shimano, spokes from rose bikes and halo aerotrack/dt x470/open pro has to be up there in the 'pick two' conundrum. I'm running novatec on the cx(from bike24 £80ish for the pair) and I'm quite pleased so far, pretty light - 400 odd grammes quoted for the pair.

ta for all suggestions so far, will look up the slx hubs at fatbirds, not going hope hoops at present as fancy trying building, if i go for prebuilt i think i would look at the superstar 29er builds on crests if anyone has any experience of them that would be good
