Couple of quick questions for the hive mind..

can I put 29in my wheels on a 700cc  cx frame with skinny tires and v brakes? Want the wheels to be bombproof.. is there any point or would cyclocross wheels suffice for nipping around town hopping up curbs etc...

and if I do get 700cc wheels.. will they be compatable with  xtr972 gearing and 11-36 cassette, thinking of putting a 40 tooth narrow wide ring on it?

I would really apreciate any help with compatibility here as I’ve been riding mountain bikes since year dot but  want to build up a cx bike with MTB vibes..?

700c rims are the same diameter as 29ers. I have narrow 29er rims for on my commuter bike, they're great.

CX wheels will be fine, as will road wheels - build them up with 32 spokes and they will be strong enough.

However, finding MTB rims with a braking surface won't be easy these days but finding road/cx rims with a braking surface is very easy.

You can't use a 29er rear wheel as the hub is 135 (or more) and imagine the CX bike is 130
