So there you are, frame on the workstand, all the components lined up on the bench, tools at the ready.....which part do you habitually reach for first?

I always fit the BB first, don't know why, but it just seems like the right thing to do, closely followed by the headset and then it is pretty much a free for all, after a cup of tea of course.

I always fit the headset first. It means I can get the forks on quicker and starts to look like I've done something and getting somewhere.

Yep, pretty much as you describe.

Any bits that need to be 'part of' the frame, then probably the crank, fork/stem/bars, mechs, brakes.........etc.

I really enjoy building a bike up. Recently stripped down my Inbred as it needed a proper going over, cleaned it all up and rebuilt it.
It was lovely to ride it for the first time again, no squeaks, clicks, creaks and every part really clean.....

Headset first, as it involves blocks of wood and big hammers, and I always start building late at night when the kids go to bed, so I get the major noise out of the way first.

I'd also kick off with the Headset, Never really thought about why but I guess if there's pressing in of bits to do or making sure important Bearings are fitted properly you want to get that out of the way first... I'll normally get the fork in and at least held in place with a stem...

BB Next, Then Chainsetand after that it's probably a bit random or based on which part is next in the pile...

OK, with my current bike I didn't build the frame, but did design it 🙂
