You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So, my Saracen Hack, which was my do-it-all #dirtydropbargoodness bike for years, and then latterly my SS commuter, has bitten the dust frame-wise.
The obvious choice is just to replace the frame(set) with something similar as I have the parts to just swap over. But not seeing a lot of (cheap) choices on eBay etc.
I'd ideally like a steel disc frame, but things like the Genesis CdF are going for slightly silly money.
Have also thought about buying and re-purposing eg an old Inbred frame to make a drop-bar SS gravelly-type bike.
What else should I be looking at? What inspired creations have you put together for this type of purpose?
So, my requirements are:
- frame / frameset / full bike (if cheap)
- ideally steel, but will consider Aluminium
- clearance for minimum 700x32-35c tyre, with mudguards.
- doesn't need to be SS-specific, as happy to run with a tensioner.
- rack and mudguard mounts.
(And, as a stealth 'wanted ad', if anyone has anything that would fit the bill that they're thinking of passing on, let me know!)
Look for a second hand Genesis Day One?
Charge Plug with Halo track wheelset (if frame is 120mm rear).
Here's something off-the-peg to compare against...
https://www.merlincycles.com/wilier-jareen-race-tiagra-gravel-bike-179193.html ~£829 inc delivery in 10% off promo.
Tiagra groupset including "proper" hydraulics, slight negative only an alloy fork.
where are you?
I have a on-one pompetamine for sale in the NE?
Options are a little limited these days.
There was a pinnacle arkose that was singlespeed at one point. EBB. Look on evans or ebay.
I'm now riding a cotic roadrat SS. Again some of the earlier ones had ss dropouts.
Everything else is niche and expensive but maybe you'll find something SH. I got my cotic for £350 second hand. Sold the geary bits so it didn't work out very expensive.
All city nature boy.
