broke my x9 mech I was using on my 2x9 set up, and a tipsy ebay purchase landed me an X9 10spd rear mech...
The question is:
Can I use my existing X9 shifter & 9sopd cassette with this fan dangled new X9 10spd mech?
will it explode? will I die? (or just spend a few hours of my life sharing colourful language with all components concerned?)

No, you can bodge it by using the box marked search up there and some other sifter I think.
Was it new on e-bay? Relist and sell on, or buy a 10sp shifter and cassette or sell it to a mate.
