I am looking for purchase light (20kg or less) full suspension ebike with a tight budget of preferably £3k or £3.5k absolutely max

I keep going round in circles trying to decide with bike, unfortunately I don't have the option to demo any but have previously demoed a top spec Orbea rise and loved it

Would appreciate any input

Haibike Lyke 10 £3000 or Haibike Lyke 11 £3250

Trek fuel 9.5 £3000 or Trek exe 9.7 £3400

Orbea rise M-ltd £3500

Or open to anything else in XL within budget

The Haibike I am worried about motor reliability

The Trek Fuel I am put off by range

The Orbea I am put off by frame noise/reliability

Don't get the trek fuel 9.5(unless you have a load of spare parts to put on it) if you decide to go for the Trek then spend the 400 quid extra and get the 9.7. The components on the 9.5 are mostly not very good.

Yeah I agree, it's very hard to try and keep to budget when for slightly more you can get significantly better spec.

I think the Trek would be perfect for my local riding but just worried it's not got enough battery for glentress and golfie etc, a shame the range extender is expensive and does not add much capacity

Assuming you're around 12 to 13 stone, you'll get around 2700 feet of climb over approx 20 miles out of the 360wh main battery, the range extender will add about 1200 feet of climb to that, using a mix of all 3 modes.

The new hpr60 motor will go 15 to 20% further for the same battery.

The hpr50 can be swapped to the hpr60 without any other changes needed, I wouldn't swap it unless the hpr50 has failed out of warranty, but once it does fail out of warranty it's an obvious upgrade.

I have a fuel exe 9.5 (upgraded most components before the bike was used), with the hpr60 motor because the hpr50 failed out of warranty.

How about a giant trance x advanced E+ Elite, I demod one, really liked it, although you may need to factor in the range extender, some good discounts about, almost half price here

I have had a fuel exe for about 11 months.  Just got it back from shop after having another motor replaced.  It's now on it's 3rd motor.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about noise/reliability on the Rise.

We’ve got 2 in the family fleet and they’ve not given a moment of hassle other than the crappy headsets in over 2000 miles.

I’ve just clicked on that ORBEA link ^ and up popped code RISE250 which brings it down to your max budget. Nice looking bike.

I bought the CF9, great bike, great motor. Pulls like a steam train.

It's hard to look past that canyon neuron for the money if the geo and suspension travel are what you're looking for.

And the bosch sx motor is about to (in early Oct) get a software update to increase the torque to 60nm.

You're in luck as XL is all they have left now! I bought a Large after @Rockhopper70's thread on the bike... I've made a few upgrades so far, but it's an awesome chassis/motor combo well worth upgrading so you don't need to fear buying the cheapest model...

Should be an easy decision to get that Canyon, no?

Bosch motor, decent geometry, perfectly decent parts and a fair way under budget.

What frame noise?  What reliability issues?  We had a pair for 3+ years and bought a pair of the latest.  One motor replacement outside warranty for free.

It's definitely a hell of a deal on that bike.  My concerns would be more about a 4? year old bike thats not been used. I'd be intrigues as to whether that has any impact on the battery (if it's been stored not-full and not-empty you'd hope not but who knows). The M-LTD has a 34 and non-piggy back shock which prioritise light weight over performance.  And the first gen linkage could be problematic (would come loose and wear) - they changed the design the next year.  But you can buy the replacement linkage for £150 so do if/when it becomes an issue.

The Canyon looks good too (I've not heard much about them in the last few years - seem to have faded from view/fashion a bit and I can't see why) but it's comparatively very low spec parts (base model Pike, Deore gears, Code R brakes)

Theres another discounted Canyon

https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/electric-bikes/electric-mountain-bikes/spectral-on/spectral-on-fly/spectral-onfly-cf-8/3537.html?dwvar_3537_pv_rahmenfarbe=M095_P02&dwvar_3537_pv_rahmengroesse=XL

But what is it with them and their innovative features - does anyone really want a spring attached to their steering?

Just took it out. No assistance at all. Had to do reset the settings on the power modes and that fixed it

Stevie not filling me with confidence for my ebike journey 😆

Although I was well aware of the common failures with TQ, I just hope that trek sort me out when the time comes!

Just got back from my 4th ride on mine, and super impressed with it... Neil Donoghue rides one a fair amount on the EMBN channel and seems to get on well with it too...

There's a school of thought that cheap(er) drivetrains are preferable on an eBike anyway as you're going to wear them out faster. Deore works fine IMO, didn't stop me from swapping in my existing X01 Eagle Mechanical setup that I've had for years though (but it owes me nothing)... But I wouldn't be worried about running Deore on an eBike. Code R's are good brakes (this is coming from someone who runs Trickstuff Maxima's on their other bike!), they're a little less feelsome than Code RSC's but work pretty much as well, and on a 140mm trail bike they're fine even if they might feel a little lacking on a longer travel bike being ridden on gnarlier trails.

The stock Pikes aren't up to scratch IMO, nor is the Deluxe Select+ shock. I replaced the fork with a £250 Merlin special Fox 36 (and then custom tuned it), and the shock with another Merlin special Fox Float for half price, and both are significant upgrades... To be fair though, the CF8 model for another £500 comes with the Fox Float shock already and XT running gear and brakes already, albeit with a Fox 34 fork (the bike warrants a 36 IMO, just for the stiffer chassis, don't go too long with the travel).

@B33K34 - Pretty sure you can just turn off or remove the KISS bungee thing.
