why are budget part, made by component companies so crap?
I bought a pair of £19.99 pedals made by NC-17.
I have ridden 620 miles with them, and the bearings in both are fubar.
this is crap, isn't it?
What, cheap things aren't very good? I never realised this before, thanks!!
Depends on the riding. 620 miles of steady wheels on the floor riding then yes, that is crap.
Buy cheap buy twice
deore and slx................cheap and strong not silly light
Bontrager cheap strong light chooes two
NC 17 are rubbish mind you
these pedals are just 6 week old......terrible quality.
once bitten eh.
On the other hand m520s are great and < £20.
Not strictly a budget issue, more of a "size of manufacturer and research put into them plus a factor relating to scale of economies in manufacture" issue
ah, you see what youve done wrong there is buy pedals other than the Superstar Nano thur-pins... 😉
What's that old saying?Cheap, strong something something pick two?
Deore is "budget" and infallible, for me. One hub service in 3 years. Lovely.
I run deore, but not pedal wise.
Aren't the default cheap pedals of choice Wellgo DX/V8 copies??
Mrs PP has had a pair for YONKS that cost about £12 if I recall correctly and they're fine. I did chuck some grease in them once but that's it.
deore is budget?
would have called whatever comes 1 below alivio "budget".
my SS £15 pedals lasted more than twice as long as the £8 pedals from somewhere else.
my shimano BB bearings at 1/5th of the price of pricey brands probably might each last more than 1/5th as long. on 2nd set now, since 2008. will let you know in about 2024 if the expenditure on shimano BB exceeded that of 1 hope/ck/etc., or if the bike is past EOL by then.
To be fair, most real budget stuff is superb. It never ceases to amaze me how well cheap Altus 7sp stuff shifts, for instance. All the big manufacturers make OEM bars, stems etc for absolute buttons that's 95% as good as anything with a posh name in it. The OEM stem and post on my Pitch are superb, but most people change that sort of stuff for something no better in use like Thompson.
Anything with Shimano written on it is fine and does what it says on the tin. Budget stuff from Truvativ, FSA, Ritchey etc is ace. FSA or Cane Creek headsets anyone? Brilliant stuff.
Superstar stuff is ace. From their brake pads to their tools. All good.
Clarkes brake pads and cables, Madison Aztec pads......good kit.
Saracen make an 8sp 29er with hydraulic brakes and a usable fork for £419. Its a great bike.
That's just a few examples off the top of my head. 🙂
Oh, ALL Fibrax stufF IS UK made too, and decent.
Cheap thing no good
Good thing no cheap

The axle fell of my XTR trail pedals way before they got anywhere near 620miles
That's crap
The same company charge 60.00 for rebranded MG1s, nuff said.
On the other hand m520s are great and < £20.
So the thread title should be:
NC-17 Pedals Are Bobbins.
*strokes £13 Wellgo DMR 8 rip offs with 1500 miles on them*
sorry Jamie..... 😳

My right side Shimano Saint flats axle and bearings failed 2nd ride out - 15 miles at tops. Pedals are pot luck.
sorry Jamie.....
That's ok. You have ass boils, so it's only natural your mind is elsewhere.
