Hi - I bought an OEX Phoxx 1v2 tent in a sale last year and never used it, it’s still in its packaging (anyone want it, will be cheap!). However I think I was a bit hasty as it’s quite a low profile tent and due to back issues I have I need more space and headroom to move around in.
So what’s got a decent headroom and space for under £100 and doesn’t weigh as much as a small moon? Doesn’t need to be mega light as I’m more of a slow ponderer and I like to be comfy.
Would prefer something with a small porch area and that is sturdy as wind scares me. 😂

How much are you thinking? Was looking at these for an upcoming bike packing one nighter.
I have a tipi style tent. Loads of head room. It's a Lan Shan one, goes up outer only but you need to get a pole made and don't forget to seam sealnit.
Err that sounds like more work than necessary, I want to buy a tent not make one. 😂

I’ll wait until I can figure out a replacement first.

No worries, let me know when the time comes 🙂
If I wasn't already sorted for tents, tarps and bivi bags I might've been quite tempted by this, plus one of the tarps they sell.
Outside of deep winter (or Scottish summer...) this has become my preferred set-up. I was out last night and stayed nice and cosy.
There is a Lanshan 1 in the classifieds at the moment for £110 with a carbon pole which is described as only having been put up once in the garden. I have the 1 plus and it's very good.

I would like a tent not a sandwich bag. 😂
I've been looking at bikepacking tents for ages & failing to make a decision.
I don't think anything I'm looking at is under £100 - although most of them come close.
Shortlist is:
Naturehike Cloud-Up 1
Decathlon Forclaz MT900 1 person
Lanshan 1 with separately purchased pole
Alpkit Soloist
probably in that order...
More details could be helpful, ie size and weight do you require? ie headroom mm and berth (1 or 2 person) + max packed weight?

Never done bikepacking so I have no idea but I’ll try.
Size no idea - enough to have myself and bags inside with some space. Would like to be able to sit upright/crouch inside.
Weight no idea but a friend has a 2.5kg tent and is fine with that. Sounds ok to me.
It’ll just be me in the tent but looking at sizes online I reckon a 2 person tent might be better?
I’m only 5 foot 7 inch so that might help but I do need the height and would like room to cook in if it’s raining if that’s possible.
@b230ftw That’s plenty to go by, I’ll have a look around later. I’m in the market myself as my proaction hike lite tent (shame is discontinued as it sounds perfect for what you want) got broken last year (my own stupid fault). Not sure yet if fixable.
By the way, you can cook under a tarp or in an open porch so even if tent doesn’t have a decent porch you could still take a lightweight tarp with you to make a little kitchen lean-to. I did this last year with Miltec poncho just pegged the poncho out for a sunshade and cooking area
I'm the owner of a Robens Arch - 2.2kg and £80 from Wiggle.
It's bomber, better built and designed than cheaper tents usually are.
As a first dip of the toe, it seems great.
If not, Vango...
I've a vango banshee 200
Not the lightest but
I’ve a nature-hike cloud up 2, decent size for one, a squeeze for two. It’s a decent tent
I think I’d prefer a side entry (like the nature hike mongar) but can’t be bothered changing this season…
I spent a good while last night looking at the nature hike range and the Vango range for something to replace my poor half defeated Hike Kite
For the money and for the side-entrance it seems the Vango Nevis 200 is currently leading the pack.
£95 on Amazon and Cotswold outdoors possibly do price match with extended warranty (?)
I’m possibly more excited by the slightly more expensive yet lighter Vango Heddon 100. I walk as well as cycle and so a trekking-pole-tent is an attractive proposition. It also packs down a full 15 cm shorter than the Nevis (and a lot of other) tents. If lowland camping I can usually cut hazel sticks for pole/s so this makes bike-packing a breeze in such situations. And my trekking poles will pack down along either side of the top tube (I use the long straps of the frame bag)
Will admit I’ve been a Vango fan for a long time from using their Force Ten classic and (more recently) Halo 200, both of which are more suitable for car/motorcycle camping so have yet to find the perfect budget bikepacking tent. I also like the Vango orange inner-tent material as find it cheering on typical UK gloomy days. This makes the new Heddon a little disappointing (having a yellow inner) but its far from a dealbreaker!
The Nevis 200 also has two exits/entrances, and can be pitched inner/outer in one go. Wish it packed smaller, but that mightn’t be a problem for some.
I have a Wild Country Zephyros 1, a little bit over £100 (£129) but a great tent. I'm 5'10 & can easily sit up in it. Porch area is big enough for kit. Reasonable weight at 1.2kgs & packs size is OK.
It's pretty much the same design as the Vango Nevis 100. As mentioned above if you want more space & happy with weight / pack size it's available as a 2 person.
Also have a Llanshan which gets the most use & worth the faff of seam sealing.
Err that sounds like more work than necessary, I want to buy a tent not make one.
That may be one of the compromises you have to male to achieve...
So what’s got a decent headroom and space for under £100 and doesn’t weigh as much as a small moon?
I have a Six Moons Wild Oasis, since replaced in their range by the Deschutes.
Do you need a full on tent? Will you head out into the hills if there's a horrible forecast?
I was going to suggest a Zephyros 1 also, or possibly a 2 if you want more room. I've got one as my luxury 1 man tent (the other one is a silly light, single skin 2 man thing) and it's great.
@paule, @Hoff re the Zephyros - is there a knack to pitching that tent? Asking because I once got to go inside of one and remember a lot of white inner-tent fabric billowing around/hanging down? Put me right off.
I’d actually shortlisted a Zephyros 1 to replace the Hike Lite, yet after once crawling inside of one I immediately thought maybe the Tiger Paws/ Hike Lite and the Halo had both spoiled me with headroom and taut-inners?
So I quickly wrote the Zephyros off, but open to the possibility of the one I’d seen had been poorly-pitched? Also tried a Vango Banshee on show once and that felt similarly oppressive/cramped. Claustrophobia is a PIMA when solo camping! I think the Hike Lite has been the only 1-person tent to date not to bother me tbh.
You can tighten up the inner of the Zephyros, there are some YouTube videos showing you how to.
Thanks Hoff good to know it can be improved. I watched a few video reviews now and I think the inner-tent’s lack of both bathtub groundsheet and of organisers/pockets coupled with less usable headroom and vestibule-width (and fewer zip/venting options) than the Vango means that the Nevis is still top of my budget sub-2kg tent short-list.
Any Nevis-owners here found that the Nevis can be packed shorter than the advertised 46cm? The poles don’t look that long (folded) from pics I’ve seen? And that’s usually the maximum factor for pack-length? Need to ring around bigger stores and see if I can view a demo model
You don't need to pack the poles with the tent (I never do). You can also buy loose pole sections and cut them shorter to make one with any packed length you like, but then you're getting into a different game.
Similar to Hoff - I tend to pitch it as tight as I can and then add tension from the 2 ends of the inner. Been fine in some decent wind & rain so far.
If you're near Sheffield, you're welcome to have a try.
Thanks @paule (me nearer Worcs/Herefs) that’s a thoughtful and kind offer, but have decided from reviews/spec that the Zephyros is not my cuppa. I’ll probably use the cargo trailer this summer/autumn for some 50-60 mile max megapacking long weekends. Have an old Vango Storm 200+ (>4kg!), tarp and a wood gas stove to luxuriate with while waiting for reviews of the Heddon to happen. Meanwhile can look at making repairs/mods on the Hike Lite.
@b230ftw - if you want bags of space for cheap (and don't mind 2.5kg) the Nevis 300 is right now £80 in Millets online sale (38% off + free delivery). Bargainous.
Tip to improve pitching for Nevis tent
So what’s got a decent headroom and space for under £100 and doesn’t weigh as much as a small moon?
Due to your budget I think there's really only one answer of looking for a new tent.
https://alpkit.com/products/soloist
Go for the XL for an extra 100 grams for the extra space and use code eggstra15 for 15% off to bring it in on budget.

Better than the Nevis for around £20 more?
In short the Cairngorm 200 vs Nevis 200
-Weighs slightly less
-packs slightly smaller
-better colour?
-double zips on doors (this makes a bigger positive difference than you’d imagine IME), - -eyelet on flysheet door-flap to take a pole (or cut stick) so could be pegged out to cook under/create a little shade etc.
-2 more vents (which are additionally adjustable)
Cons? I read that there’s less space between inner and outer so these can stick together in places with condensation.

^ *edit
Cons? - the Cairngorm is also a discontinued model. (sigh)
It’s a minefield (of polyester and aluminium) out there…
