First decent length ride on a new road bike yesterday. Beforehand had set up reach as per previous bike. Hadn't realised steeper seat angle would put my backside in a totally different position... Rode through the pain, and have been very tender since. Am now wondering how long I'll be off the bike? Sat out today... Don't really want to miss 2 nice days in a row. Can you OD on Arnica gel? Any other tips to accelerate recovery?
Spend your downtime getting the position corrected.......
then apply Vaseline before you ride and after shower. Start with short rides work up
Fill bath with warm water, half a bottle of Radox, and 2 handfuls of salt and relax.
Vaseline, Radox, won't make any difference except in your head. It's just bruising, it will take a few days to subside. Have you got the saddle at the right angle? Can you post a pic of the bike on here? What pressure did you have in the tyres? What kind of shorts do you wear?
The good news is that you will get used to it.
Saddle, shorts and seat post all the same, and very familiar. I'm sure its the seat position relative to BB. I had originally set it up relative to the bars. When I run a plum line down via the BB, the new bikes saddle was 2cm nearer the plus me than the old one. I've switched to a shorter stem and fitted a layback to shift my position rearward without affecting the reach... Strangely pain is only on left side?
Nearer the plus is autocorrect for nearer the bb!
