I have had a very painful tailbone for a few weeks now, slipped a pedal and smacked it hard enough to bend a saddle and a Thomson post

Anyone had anything like this and if so how long till it sorted itself out as it's getting annoying now...May have to start walking around with a pillow, oddly enough doesn't hurt to ride, just sitting down.

I did mine a few years ago falling off some board walk and landing on the nose of my saddle and it's still uncomfortable if I sit down on a hard surface. In terms of sitting down on a comfy chair in minimal discomfort it took about a month, biking was ok almost straight away though.

sorry to say this but it could be some time. I did the same in Dec 09 and still get pain from it now. Had a 4 mth lay off with a leg injury and it got slightly better, then had another saddle kick up and now hurts again. Ofter in work seat, car but not in the saddle (unless it is over 2 hours). Docs say 'live with it', basically the muscle / cartilage / tissue around your tailbone is very soft and takes a long time to heal but constant knocking will set it back.

I find heated seats in the car are good on long journeys.....

Sorry to be the bearer of sh1t news.

I crashed badly back in November (2010) and thought I had cracked my coccyx but after an xray etc nothing was found to be broken.

It was suspected that I had bruised the bone or done something to my lower back with the pain manifesting in my coccyx.

I was told to rest, I didn't, but it got better on its own.

I find the hard ride of my Civic can bring on discomfort with prolonged travel 3+ hrs but even that is getting better.

Keep mobile and perhaps take an anti inflamatory like ibroprofen.
