Hi
I’m about 6 months into riding and need some advice on places to ride bare the obvious round Bristol, I mainly ride in wales as all my biking pals live over the bridge is there any groups or places with some steep off piste stuff around or close to Bristol?
Any info would be appreciated
The nearest place is in Leigh woods (toward the gorge), where there are some short and steep runs. You can look them up from trailfork. Though there are some tree felling at the moment and I've not been there for a while so don't know how much are still ridable.
The other place is mendip if you live in the south of Bristol.
As above, Leigh Woods is great for steep riding. There are several short steep trails. You can mix bits up, eg top of one bottom of another, on some of them so it makes for quite a few trails. Kept me entertained all lockdown. As also mentioned they are felling trees at the moment The whole area is closed right now. Should be opening again soon. I had a look last week and there was definitely some damage so some bits will need the trail fairies. Hopefully there will be some volunteer sessions to mend them. Only steep bit currently open is on the Leigh Court side. That is getting a bit cut up after a busy summer but still very rideable.
There's also Ashton Hill/Belmont. More jumpy than steep but a few nice bits even with wheels on the ground. That's dry weather only or the trails get damaged.
A bit further afield there's Nibley, Mendips, and Wentwood.
Thanks guys, il def give Leigh woods a go over the next couple weeks, wentwood is where i tend to ride most really like it there and also great having Belmont on our doorstep for a play on jumps, but weather permitting of course.
What has happened to rowberrow as loads trails shut which is a shame as quite liked it there only 25 mins away from me.
Rowberrow now has a few official trails and the rest is fully out of bounds. Rather than them all being unofficial.
Leigh Woods was good but everything Picnic Bench and Knicker Trail side is closed for forestry.
Rocky Horror was open when I went a few weeks ago, but apparently now there’s not really a way out along the bottom - so you have to push back out. Same for Maggott Gulley and Sh*t tent - you can find these riding round the blue at Leigh Woods - look for the ‘no cycling’ sign at the top of each! Maggott has a rather alarming cliff you need to avoid riding off about 1/3rd of the way down - you turn right and this point and there’s a few hairpins down the hill.
Other than that there’s a trail called bluebell that’s I’d assume is ok still - once you get to the bottom of that if you go right up the fireroad there’s a few trails off to the left - Garlic and something else on Strava.
