I'm thinking it might be a good idea to ride with a few locals. What groups are there round Bristol and when do they ride? Looking for slow and friendly rather than race pace. I've seen Cheesey Riders but can't quite fathom the website, you need to be a member to see when rides are but can't be a member until you go on a ride 🙂 Does anybody ride during the day, mid-week (jobless, self-employed, etc..)? I work from home so this is a good option for me.

Cheesy Riders would suit slow & friendly. Website isn't brilliant until you've got access to the forum (as the calendar isn't working ATM). Regular ride is monday nights, usually meeting at 6.30pm, but there are plenty of other rides organised throughout the week.
I'll point one of the mods in this thread's direction so he can email you direct.
Hi Nick,
we made the Cheesy Riders' website password-encoded. You can contact me on ZERO7971DOUBLE SIX 7824 or email me, Mark Barnett at mark DASH barnett @ orange DOT net ( no spaces ).
We have 3 levels...
CHEESY: you'll never be slower than the fat guy in front ( waves ).
FRUITY: getting a bit of speed and skill.
HOT CHILLI: weight-obsessed speed freaks who'll humanely cull you if you're not fast enough.
