I fancy a CX bike so I can go straight from the house to some offroad type stuff. I;m in SE London, about 20 mins from Beckenham and spied some interesting bits of woodland when I was out today...
Would a CX bike cut it out there?

No reason why it wouldn't - just hoping some locals can tell me how much stuff is out there that I can connect up into a decent ride

Bigfoot Bikes in Hayes do night rides around Keston Common on a Tuesday and Thursday. They should be able to point you in the right direction but there is nothing off road in Beckenham. You need to head to Keston/Downe/High Elms for bridalways.
