I know the stretch from Horton to the Gate near Hull Pot like the back of my hand. What is it like round to Foxup?
Surfaced or bog trot?
I presume it is an up and down in both directions, but does anyone have a preference?

from gate before Hull pot (3 peaks goes off to the RHS) take a diagonal faint track to gate (300m). easy to miss. Then good track with ruts for 500m and just after steep bank turn off track (left) to cross 3 peaks track and follow wall to gate across track. from the bank, this is about 1000m and was badly damaged by motors 10 years ago and still has not recovered. It can be very suck-y as it's slightly uphill bot is all rideable. Then the track has been done up (years ago) and is good and stoney or solid grassy with a few wet muddy puddles mainly near gates. After 3 gates, when track becomes feint, drop of the edge(left) and down steep boggy bit (all ridable but very steep) for 150m to track by a gate. Then follow good track through 2 gates to hit a wall (no gate) and track drops steeply to LHS (all good ridable). At second gate there is a choice. Drop left (300m) to Foxup Farm (Lunds) which is road head or better to turn up (steep uphill for 60m) then follow level track along shelf to Silverdale Road above Heselbergh

Bit of everything, really - obviously nowhere near as good as the track up to Hull Pot in terms of surface. There are a few stream crossings, some v boggy sections of grassy surface in the mile or so after Hull Pot, but as above, it's pretty much all rideable.
I don't think it gives a particularly rewarding descent in either direction, but there is some technical interest to be had, particularly getting across the little dips where it crosses the streams.
As for the alternative routes at Foxup, I'm not that keen on the shortcut which joins Silverdale Road - a bit of a marshy plod at this time of year, and unless you then turn and follow the road back down, you miss out on the decent, tough track climb back up again.

Been on the to do list for a while along with Horse Head. I'll watch out for a frozen day after a couple of weeks of dry (ha!)
My impression was that Horse Head was better North to South - much better descent. Others may disagree, of course - the climb up is a pig. That also leaves you the blast down from Hull Pot back to Horton if you want to go across from Foxup. Personally unless it's dry, I would go Buckden - Horse Head - Dawson Close - Helwith Bridge.
