In theory you shouldn't be subject to duty from either, and pay VAT as normal.

In practice, websites and couriers will be struggling to get things sorted for a while and you end up stuck in the middle.

thanks for that,
my problem is more specific, northern ireland is supposed to remain in the single market (eu), with a 'border' down the irish sea, and subject to eu regulations rather than GB. i have no idea how this affects online sales and suspect that most suppliers will have little interest in the intricacies of of northern ireland protocols !

I tried to purchase an item from France last week and it was refused with a note saying not posting to the United Kingdom, so I messaged back saying I was in Northern Ireland and part of the single market. They replied that it didn’t matter still weren’t willing to post.

Lots of EU shops now explicitly selling to UK but not NI. It’s a mess right now. No one can really give you a straight answer yet OP… you’ll have to be patient.
