I fancy a weekend in the Brecon Beacons, having a couple of days "natural" riding and a day at Cwm Carn. Crickhowell looks convenient for one of the rides I've lined up for the Black Mountains.

Any recommendations for good places to stay? Should I be looking at other towns/villages? Somewhere quiet, but with at least one pub and restaurant within walking distance.

Thanks

Talybont on Usk always seems popular.

I haven't been for 20 years or more, but Talybont was nice back then...

As above. White Hart is a nice spot.

Always enjoy a stay at Bear inn for Crickhowell.

Slightly old fashioned, nice bar - nice to eat in the bar if you can - car parks a jam!

Dragon inn down the road is nice as well - more contemporary perhaps..

Book early for both!

Talabont is definitely a good place to stop.

As for accommodation neilc1881 who posts on here has two great huts to stay in at Aber Farm, Talybont - one shepherds hut another is the one he posted on here while building it.

They are book able on Airbnb and are handy for The Gap and other rides.

Mods - am I allowed to do this or does this count as some sort of advert? If I'm not then I am sorry and please delete this.

Short walk/ride from Talybont. The Star has new owners, but still great beer, good meals.
The Travellers - great restaurant
and there should be a bike shop opening soon as well...

EDIT - Thanks Gowerboy! Beaten to my own race 😉

The Travellers has a nice self catering apartment as wellewellyn, or at least it did a few years ago.

Thanks all. Will check them out tomorrow. Might be a case of grabbing what's available; going in a fortnight!

Cheap and basic, YHA near Talybont. Long walk to a pub but they have a small bar on site.

Merthyr Premier Inn is another option.

Llangattock Mountain Bunkhouse, about 1 mile up from Crickhowell is a nice place too.

Stayed here. We did a great ride from the doorstep and other "classics" were a short drive away. So convenient having a garage to store the bikes.

as Deadkenny said - the YHA in Talybont is good basic accommodation. They have a small bar and serve evening meals and breakfast. Lovely location, stayed there about 6 months ago.

I stayed here (Arian Cottage in Aberdare) last weekend for a yomp up Pen Y Fan:

Dead friendly. Close to Beacons/Black Mountains. Clean, comfortable and quaint. Owners very easy-going. Simply couldn't recommend it enough.
