Went for early Christmas Day ride at dawn - entrance to raven carpark was sheet ice, with no chance of getting my car to the top. Had to walk up the side of the entrance track and then slide across the ice on my a**e before I could get to the bottom of the raven. The singletrack was also sheet ice on the raven. Wish I'd had a camera as it really was like an icing rink with about 1" of ice strectched across the car park and all the way down. Drove up to the gorlech and the entrance there was also iced, although not as severe. Decided it would be stupid to risk it, so drove home without a ride 🙁 The sun is out and shining now, so maybe it will all melt, but its still at or below freezing here, so be careful folks.

Yep, been there done that. There are 'rideable' tracks up there. What I notice is that it won't be long before freezes again. The only time to be wary of Brechfa is in high winds, you just don't know what the trees will do.

catnash - do you mean you rode it today?? What time about? Didn't want to risk it but if you found some rideable tracks well done - might go back this afternoon if so 🙂

Right, spent 1/2 hour pushing my bike out of Llanpumsaint as the roads are coverd in black ice, gave up and turned back. Suns comming out but i would think twice if Brechfa has 1/2 as much ice then it will be pretty bad.
Will try tomorrow instead i think.

Suns been out most of the morning and we have just had a shower of rain. The black ice has now gone so i think tomorrow will be fine. So it's me and a SS tomorrow trying to ride Brechfa - this is going to hurt - i live in Suffolk so hills are alien to me.

Ello, finally made it there on Sunday. Trails where fine with ice in a few places but only a little pushing was needed. The final Gorlech decent had a decent amount of ice at the bottom as i found out sailing over my bars as my front wheel washed out!
At the moment though where i am the weather is really dreadfull, full on rain and sleet pellting down. I was going to visit again today but have decided that it really isn't worth it. forcast doesn't look like improving much either. I would give it a miss to be honest.

bintangman...the gorlech trail is in poor condition at the mo, i rode it 2 weeks before christmas. as it's been officially closed for a while there has been no maintenance on it so alot of the singletrack sections ave lost what little flow they had as the surfaces are in such a state.

have a razz round the blue/green combo instead. or the black seems alright, i rode it for the first time last week and it was very entertaining with an inch of vigin snow on it...breaking trail was a pleasure and there was a surprising amount of grip.

cheers mark and lister.
Might try to stay local then and try out the trailrakers for the first time this year.... Just got myself a Gopro HD so was looking forward to testing it out on the gorlech.

I have to admit i didn't think the surface was to bad on Sunday but everyone has their own opinion. There was a bit of ice and standing water, but after the weather today i think it's probably alot worse.
